Our Key Training and Support services for our residents
At Marvellous Care we provide a range of services that guide and train young people into successful independent living.
Many of these skills were also identified by young people leaving care in a 2006 report by the Children’s Rights Director titled ‘’.
Some of these key skills include -
Personal Finance
Young people will be helped to understand the importance of budgeting and saving.
They will be shown how to set up bank accounts and given a basic understanding of personal finance.
When young people reach the age of 18 our support team will offer help and support with claiming any benefits they may be entitled to. This includes Job Seekers Allowance, Income Support and Housing Benefit.
Education & Training
Marvellous Care believes that through education people will have many more life opportunities.
Marvellous Care will work closely with individuals to understand and support their long term educational goals and ambitions. These aims may be in academic study or vocational training.
We will undertake individual reviews to identify where their educational needs will be best met and provide practical advice and assistance to set them on the right path.
We will help with applications, discussions with educational establishments and help to enrol onto courses.
Personal Skills
A key element of the support we provide residents is to help with general skills to get on.
For example, we will help with guidance on completing job application forms and cover communication and interview skills to increase their chances of success. We will also work with young people to help them understand general workplace ethics and expectations.
In addition there will be support to promote independence so young people can travel alone on public transport.
Practical Living Skills
The importance of managing a household cannot be underestimated in the journey to independent living.
Residents will helped to become competent in a number of essential household skills including basic cookery tips, understanding the importance of cleaning Self care skills (personal hygiene, ironing, washing clothes)
We will also look at other general essentials to ensure your place of living remains safe and minor DIY maintenance can be undertaken such as changing a plug.
Sessions will be done around sexual health, healthy eating/nutrition, self esteem, healthy relationships, plain English skills.
